Kouplen received his BS and MBA degrees from Oklahoma State University, and his graduate banking degree from the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado.
On April 1, 2008, Kouplen fulfilled a lifelong dream by raising $15.5 million in capital and leading an investor group that purchased 110-year old Regent Bank in Nowata, OK. Since that time, the bank has expanded to Tulsa and OKC, almost tripling in size from $72 million in assets to almost $200 million in very challenging economic times. In 2011, Regent Bank was named the Oklahoma Small Business Financial Services Champion.
Kouplen was recently named one of Oklahoma’s Most Admired CEO’s by the Journal Record, one of OSU’s Top 50 MBA Graduates of the century, and was named to Oklahoma Magazine and Tulsa Business Journal’s Top 40 Under 40 lists.
Kouplen has an extensive resume of community leadership including the Tulsa Metro Chamber Small Business Council, Tulsa Zoo Board and Tulsa Young President’s Organization. He is Past President of the OSU National Alumni Association and was named Citizen of the Year in Bixby in 2002.
In 2008, Kouplen authored Out of the Blocks, a self-help book designed to help high school and college graduates effectively transition into the ‘real world’. The book was consistently ranked in the top 100 of amazon.com’s self-help books nationwide.
Kouplen recently completed his second book, an updated edition of Out of the Blocks entitled Twelve Life Lessons Every Graduate Should Know which will be available very soon!
Kouplen’s third book, The Priority Promise, should hit the market in June. The Priority Promise is a life management book, which unveils a unique process for achieving all we want in life while still enjoying each and every day.
Kouplen has been married to his wife Angela for 15 years, and they have three children- Emory (age 9), Kennedy (age 6) and Finley (age 3).
